Contribute to a permanent toilet designs to be built by local artisans using immediately available materials in the area surrounding Beira, Mozambique.

There is an ever present complexity in the introduction of sanitation in areas which are not aware of the importance of sanitation. In an effort to activate the economy in a sustainable manner as sanitation is introduced into people’s homes, SNV is developing a catalog of toilets which local artisans (ceramicists, brick-makers, etc.) can use. The goal is to introduce the toilet as a product that is wanted, which represents a status amongst the suburban population of Beira. By using locally sourced materials, the carbon footprint is reduced, and can foster other aspects of the local economy such as with suppliers and repairs.
